7 Powerful Ways to Break Free From Perfectionism and Lead with Confidence (flaws and all).

imposter syndrome perfectionism Aug 13, 2025

Hi there! Welcome to this edition of our newsletter, where we're exploring the world of perfectionist tendencies and how to overcome them for greater momentum and impact. So, buckle up and get ready for some serious practical steps to set yourself free!

There is no perfect executive. Period.

"Self esteem is the ability to see yourself as a flawed individual and still hold yourself in high regard." - Esther Perel.

We are all human. Some days we are on fire and oozing confidence and conquer-the-world vibes. Other days, we want the world to stop so we can get off.  I’ve had this conversation with more clients than I can count and know both of those extremes intimately.

If we expect ourselves not to be flawed, we are setting ourselves up to fail. 17 years of coaching (and 47 years of life) experience tell me that as humans, we are less likely to step up, say yes, and be visible if we don’t feel confident.

Recognising ourselves as flawed and simultaneously owning our strengths, experience, and unique value enables us to stand in our truth and feel confident enough to say yes even in the aftermath of a mistake, or projected anxiety of what’s to come.

It may not feel comfortable, but it doesn’t stop you.

This is the beautiful intersection between Imposter Success Strategies and Executive Branding. We need to learn the former to execute consistently in the latter.

Here are 7 simple ways to release the grip of perfectionism:

  1.  Identify what is ‘good enough’ vs perfect.
  2. Set new, reasonable standards for yourself and share them with others.
  3. Create a list of how striving for perfection is negatively impacting you and others.
  4. Stop comparing yourself to others. ‘Comparison is the thief of joy’ – Brene Brown.
  5. Take massive imperfect action daily to gather evidence that you are ok.
  6. Find the growth in the mistake and apply the learning.
  7. Feel the empowerment you are building by carving out your own rules.

What will you do differently this coming week?
